AirTran was founded in 1992 and first operated as ValuJet Airlines, before switching its name to AirTran in 1997. Flying primarily between the Midwestern and eastern United States, the carrier flew up to 700 flights daily and was the largest operator of the Boeing 717. It was purchased by Southwest Airlines in 2014 and is now fully integrated as Southwest Airlines. As part of Southwest Airlines, AirTran now operates as the world's largest low cost carrier and shares the same policies, from the Southwest check in to the airline's regulations and benefits.
