Due to the serious escalation of hostilities and violence between Israel and Palestine, a situation of extreme tension that has already caused numerous deaths and injuries, we want to make sure you know all the travel warnings and advisories if you plan on visiting this part of the world in the next few weeks. From the eDreams blog we bring you the recommended precautions that should be taken and areas to avoid.
- Do not visit the area of the Gaza Strip or anywhere in Israel within a 40km radius of this area. This includes, but is not limited to, the cities of Sderot, Netivot, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Beersheba and Kiryat HaMalachi.
- Avoid travel in the southern part of the West Bank, specifically in the city of Hebron and the surrounding areas, as well as in Bethlehem. The town of Halhul, part of the Hebron Governorate, Highway/Route 60, near Shilo and Nablus, are also considered high-risk areas.
- Avoid the Arab neighborhoods of East Jerusalem and Israeli-Arab towns such as Nazareth and Nira, where there is a high-risk for hostility and attacks.
- Rocket attacks (M-75 rockets), fortunately not harming any civilians, have also been occuring in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Eilat. We recommend practicing extreme caution if you are staying in these areas.
- Avoid the areas on the border with Sinai, where there are terrorist groups present and the risk of attacks is high. This risk also extends to the city of Eilat.
- There is still tension on the Lebanon border, so it is advisable to act with extreme caution in areas close to the northern border of Israel.
- Travelers are advised to always be aware and follow the latest news.
- It is also highly recommended to notify the consular authorities of one’s own country in Israel about their presence in the country and the trip itinerary (indicating the start and end dates of travel and places that will be visited).
- Do not leave your hotel after nightfall.
- Always carry your travel documents and identification. Due to the current situation, controls are much more frequent.
- Find out in advance about the location of public bomb shelters and protected areas in the city where you will be traveling. You can find this information on city municipality websites. Find a list of public bomb shelters in Tel Aviv on the city’s website.
- Know the security procedures in the case of an attack. Visitors should follow the instructions as suggested by the Home Front Command: www.oref.org.il
