Thanks to Barcelona‘s well-developed and organised transportation system, you have everything within reach! Be it metro, bike, train or bus, there’s something to suit all preferences and budgets. So if you’re planning to visit the Catalan capital anytime soon, here is some information to help get you from Point A to Point B.
Walking
Walking is a good way to discover Barcelona’s city center. Strolling down Las Ramblas, walking past the council house, or exploring the streets of Barri Gòtic lets you enjoy the city from up-close, not to mention that its healthy and environmentally friendly.
By Metro and Bus
Barcelona’s extensive Metro network can take you to almost any corner of the city. There are also plenty of routes covered by high-frequency bus services. You can combine both to reach your destination easier and faster.
Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat
With the Railways of the Generalitat you can easily explore Barcelona’s surroundings as well. Depending on where you wish to go, there are different trains stopping in the city center or in other stations nearby such as Plaza de España, Pedralbes and Bonanova.
The Montjuïc Cable Car
Montjuïc is one of the most appreciated tourist attractions, and going by cable car is the ideal way to reach the park and the castle on the mountain. From here you’ll be able to see all of Barcelona, so make sure you don’t forget your camera on this trip!
By Bike
Thanks to the Bicing service provided by the city council, bikes are starting to grow in popularity. These bikes can be picked up and dropped off at different locations throughout the city without any hassle.
By Tram
Not too long ago, the traditional tram in Barcelona was replaced by the Trambaix, a new network of trams that passes through various neighborhoods such as Diagonal – Forum, Hospitalet de Llobrega, Esplugues de Llobregat and Sant Joan Despi. A different and very eco-friendly way to move around Barcelona.
If you visit Barcelona, don’t forget your Hello BCN! card. This can be purchased for 2, 3, 4 or 5 days and gives you access to the city’s public transportation: metro, bus, tram and train.
