It’s hard to beat Madrid…
There aren’t too many cities in the world that combine:
- A big city.
- Capital attitude.
- And the laid back relaxing cup of cafe con leche that defines the Spanish the world over.
Culture, nature, nightlife, world class food, cheap wine – need we say more? Couples, you’ve got the pick of the litter and meanwhile take a look at the most romantic places in the world.
Here are nine tips for couples to get the ball rolling on a Madrid holiday.
1. Steam it Up at Hammam Al Ándalus
Get slapped down on a hot stone table, lathered up in a soap and red grape mixture, and let a masseuse scrub you down with a Kessa glove before massaging you to sleep with essential moisturizing oils.
This Arabic bath joint won’t disappoint!
2. Take in a Show at Teatro Real
Why not have date night on the road with an evening at one of Europe’s great theaters? The 1,746 capacity theater known as El Real (‘The Royal’) plays host to home productions involving leaders of international singing, stage, and dance.
3. Peep the Sunset from Templo de Debod
This 2nd Century Egyptian temple was under threat due to a dam construction and was actually relocated to Madrid’s Parque del Oeste in 1972.
Not only is it the only monument of its kind in Spain, but the sunset views from here are second to none.
4. Chow Down on Churros Con Chocolate at Chocolateria Valor
You might as well spend a morning dunking a series of elongated donuts into an almost impossibly thick chocolate sauce – locals are known to do this at sunrise after a long night at the club but we’ll give you the choice to get a good night’s sleep 😉
5. Eat a Romantic Dinner Watching Flamenco at Casa Patas
Most places either give you a good meal or some good Flamenco but it’s rare that a place does both. Here you’ll feast on classic Madrilenian cuisine and take in a world class Flamenco performance all in an intimate, retro setting.
6. Look Down on the City from Circulo de Bellas Artes
This multidisciplinary cultural organisation puts on activities regarding the visual arts, film, poetry, stage, music, literature, science, philosophy and more.
The iconic building constructed in 1926 has some of the best views in the city.
7. Go Gourmet in a Vintage Train Car at El Vagon de Beni
Carefully elaborated traditional Spanish dishes with a modern twist are cooked here: aboard a 1950’s themed train car!
The intimate setting is perfect for couples allergic to distance…
8. Fit in a Film at the Classic Cine Dore’
You may recognise this classic 50 year old cinema from a few Almodovar films. Cinefiles will love the round the clock screenings of classic, world cinema, and experimental productions.
You also won’t find a better value night out in all of Madrid: just €2.50 a ticket.
9. Walk Through the Parque El Capricho
This beauty of a park was commissioned by Duchess María Josefa de la Soledad Alonso Pimentelin 1784. Her goal? To create a natural paradise in which only the most prestigious artists, gardeners, and set designers worked. It shows.
¡Muy bien! Let’s grab ourselves a pair of wings and get flying then…
