The country that has everything, according to a famous export and motorcycle champion.
This weekend, the otherwise quiet town of Montmeló, Spain, gears up to host the fifth round of the MotoGP Gran Premi Aperol. The Grand Prix of motorcycling, this competition draws crowds from all over the world. eDreams took the opportunity to catch up with current champion, Mallorca born Jorge Lorenzo.
Away from home five months of the year, Lorenzo’s work makes him something of a professional traveller. But no matter where he goes, his heart remains in his homeland.
“It [Spain] has the best quality of life in the world,” Lorenzo enthuses to eDreams. “Here we have everything, so we don’t have to be jealous of anyone else. We have the best beaches, mountains for skiing, beautiful cities, plenty of history, fantastic islands… everything.”
As we all get ready to top up our tans, which beaches does Lorenzo recommend? “The Mallorca beaches are my favourite. Es Trenc is amazing. In general, Palma [de Mallorca] has fantastic coves. Formentera, Menorca and Ibiza are also amazing.”
Lorenzo is particularly fond of his homeland, Mallorca, where he always goes to disconnect. “There are still spots there that are impossible to find.” So can he give us some insider tips on the island’s unforgettable corners? “Formentor, Es Trenc, Valldemossa, Palma Cathedral, La Sierra de Tramuntana [mountain range], and Las Cuevas del Drach [underground caves].”
And if the champion could choose a place to hang out with his mates? “My house, as I am always travelling. I would like my friends to come round, go in the pool and just chat.”
So there you have it – the best place to chill in Spain? Jorge Lorenzo’s pad, of course!
