The Carnival Season is almost upon us so now is the time to decide where to celebrate it.
Carnival usually takes place the week before Lent. Why? Well, traditionally parties, celebrations and eating certain rich foods were forbidden during the 40 days of Lent, which remembers the period Jesus spent in the wilderness. During the days before Lent, people had parties to use up the food which they couldn’t eat during Lent. This is where carnivals originate from.
The Brazilian Carnivals are perhaps the most famous and the whole country comes to a standstill for about a week so that people can celebrate day and night. Perhaps you have always wanted to visit Brazil….do you like to party? Carnival is the perfect opportunity. Rio de Janeiro Carnival is perhaps the most popular celebration and the city’s great weather, beautiful setting and paradise beaches also add to the reasons to go.
Venice is also famous for its celebrations. It doesn’t matter what time of the year you visit Venice, you will always be able to buy a beautiful mask. However, you will only get your chance to wear it during the carnival.
