It seems that Ryanair was not the only airline to take part in April Fool’s Day by launching “child-free flights”. In fact, many other companies also took part in the fun in an endeavour to announce the most believable and craziest jokes.
Along the same lines as Ryanair, the newly launched airline, Urchin Airways, announced its first adult-free flight for under-16s from London to New York with cabin crew dressed as clowns and lots of activities, games and competitions to keep kids entertained.
The two British Airlines, British Airways and easyJet linked their April Fool’s jokes with the Royal Wedding. British Airways said that it would feature portraits of each member of the Royal Family on the tails of six of their aircrafts. easyJet claimed the Royal newlyweds would be flying with the company and honeymooning in Scotland.
Virgin Atlantic announced that it would be growing fresh herbs and vegetables in a patch in the aircraft gallery for business class passengers (not to mention the announcement that Richard Branson, owner of Virgin Atlantic, had bought the former planet Pluto and planned to reinstate it as a planet and hopefully pave the way for space tourism).
Air New Zealand also revealed that it was going to introduce “pay what you weigh” airfares in aid to help passengers decrease their waistline and the price of airline tickets at the same time. Lastly, WestJet announced that it would mix air with helium to lighten the weight of their aircrafts in order to save the amount of fuel used and thus reduce airfares.
Sound crazy? These are just some of the many April Fool’s jokes that lots of airlines played this year. What will they claim next year…..?
